Kay's actions
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Health
Avoid refined sugar
I will adopt a diet free of refined sugars, which eliminates sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Transportation
Try Carpooling
I will commute by carpool 14 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 4.05 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.

Kay Killian 10/24/2018 9:22 AMThis really raised my awareness. Maybe if enough of us can BE THE CHANGE it will reverse the disturbing trend of not friendly environmental policies happening right now in our government. -
Kay Killian 10/23/2018 11:37 AMI have eliminated using plastic cups & utensils. My son sometimes gets take out food with plastic containers and lids. I save those and reuse them. They are especially nice to reuse to donate a meal. -
Kay Killian 10/22/2018 7:24 AMWhen walking with my neighbor (always a minimum of 30 minutes), we picked up cans and plastics. We even threw away some trash by a bus stop that had a trash can right beside it. -
Kay Killian 10/22/2018 7:19 AMI wish more of our Green Team had signed up for this challenge. There is so much more to learn and this is full of resources I did not know about. Maybe next year we can really promote it. -
Kay Killian 10/18/2018 1:49 PMI am more self aware of plastics use. My carpool is with my son, who goes to school near where I work. If our schedules don't mesh, one or the other of us take the bus. One less car on the road! Walking and exercising have not only the benefit of a more healthy me, but a connection with my neighbor. This challenge always makes me think twice before reaching for that "little piece" of candy or a soda. Going meatless once a day has been very easy and has synced well with the exercise and refined sugar avoidance. I have lost 15 pounds since the start of this completion! -

For my 10 minute educations I read the ZeroWasteHome 100 tips. What I realize is this is a radical change from the way we usual live in the USA. This is a purposed, disciplined and purposeful approach to life. It makes perfect sense, but is a dramatic leap in lifestyle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Try CarpoolingWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety.
Kay Killian 10/16/2018 8:57 AMI struggle with this because of my work schedule. My son and I are sharing his bus pass, but the bus stop in no where near my house and leave very early. I may have to get over the inconvenience and be more disciplined about getting up early. -
Kay Killian 10/16/2018 8:55 AMHaving one meatless meal a day is easy. There are so many good choices of meat substitutes or just items with added protein like power bars, yogurts and protein shakes. -
Kay Killian 10/15/2018 1:57 PMI notice nearly everyone in my workplace uses a re-usable drink container. It really saves on trash and is so handy! -
Kay Killian 10/15/2018 1:56 PMWe carpooled to a special event and it was not only a cost savings, but a much more enjoyable trip
