Katy's actions
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 2 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 15 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Katy Korkos 10/17/2018 11:49 AMIt concerns me most about how much food we consume and how much goes into shipping and packaging of food. it seems like more and more food is wrapped in portions that are too large for me to consume, and especially meat is often wrapped in Styrofoam, with a little pad, plastic covered and then the sacker in the grocery store will often put it in a plastic bag before you can stop them. HOw do we get the point across that we want smaller amounts or to be able to choose -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Katy Korkos 10/04/2018 4:10 PMI was given a stainless steel coffee mug with a screw-on lid that doesn't have a hole in the top- so finally I can carry my coffee from one place to another without spilling on my clothes.
