REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?
Chelsea Maricle 10/24/2018 8:40 PMOur energy footprint was not a surprise at all. What most interested me was going through the audit itself, especially as a new, first-time homeowner. Up until buying a house, I never paid any attention to what type of heating ducts we had, or whether our clothes dryer was electric. Simply doing the online audit (just 5 minutes!) made me get to know my home better and also start to understand where we might be losing our energy. Hopefully they are projects we can tackle in the near future! -
Chelsea Maricle 10/23/2018 10:28 PMI haven't been able to participate as much in the EcoChallenge as I had originally wanted. First, my travel and subsequent wrist injury has been such a drag. Second, and unsuspectingly, most of the daily challenges are things I already do! Next year I might make them active challenges anyway, so I can feel good each day I live out the habit. :) Regardless, it's been *awesome* to see the team really step it up, engage, and win so many gift cards! Go ThinkShout - we're down to the last day! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Chelsea Maricle 10/15/2018 8:38 PMWe use YNAB to track our purchases and it's such a great system! However, I don't utilize all the tools it offers like I should. I just looked at the income v. expense report tonight, and it is really enlightening. It's amazing to see our spending trends over the last several months, broken out by category. I always feel like we're spending too much of our budget on groceries and eating out. Now that I have a better picture of our actual spending patterns, we can start making more educated decisions — not only about our food budget, but hopefully around getting our net income higher too! :) -
Chelsea Maricle 10/09/2018 8:53 PMI just returned from a cross-country trip. I've always considered purchasing carbon offsets for my air travel but have never done gotten around to it. It's great to have the EcoChallenge inspire me to do it finally! While I may not specifically purchase offsets in the future, what really excites me is making a donation to a tree-planting nonprofit every time I fly, so I hope to make that commitment from this day forward.
