    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

I could incorporate my other personal values like spending time with family into my exercise routine by inviting them to work out with me once a week. I try to incorporate time in nature for workouts when the weather in MN cooperates. I try to spend a little time outside each day, even when it's winter.

Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

I'd love to start making my own pickles and fruit preserves. Homemade pickles taste so much better than commercially sold pickles.

100% agree!!  Homemade canned pickles are superior to store bought!

What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

I think there are many factors that contribute to North Americans eating more meat than any other people. Financial capability, amount of grazing lands, water availability, feed-crop subsidies, and a fast food culture all play a part in our high consumption.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

This isn't a huge shock to me. I know the American diet has become far less focused on what's most nutritionally sound and more on what's most convenient. This leads us to purchase pre-processed foods that are often times less expensive, so we don't worry about the waste as much. Additionally, we eat way more fruits and vegetables that aren't in season. In order to do this we have produce that sits on trucks longer, resulting in a dramatically shortened home shelf-life.
