Lilly's actions
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of C02 over the course of the next year.
Simplicity
Buy Used Clothes
I will spend 10 minutes learning about the perils of fast fashion and will buy my clothes at second-hand stores when I shop.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk for 10 minutes each day.
Nature
Keep a Nature Journal
I will journal each day about my experiences in nature.
Participant Feed

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Lilly Meek 9/16/2018 5:43 PMThis was a bit hard to do because Oregon is so cold! But I managed to do it.-
Fallon Harris 9/19/2018 8:57 AMI opted to take cooler showers, rather than cold showers. Living more sustainably doesn't mean we have to suffer :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Keep a Nature JournalWhat natural gifts are you grateful for?
Lilly Meek 9/16/2018 1:05 AMJust found a journal to write in. I never usually write in journals because I usually forget to keep writing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go for a Daily WalkFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Lilly Meek 9/16/2018 1:01 AMToday I went for a walk outside. It was the first time I stepped off campus and visited my downtown for a long time. Its been bout a month! I was pleasantly surprised to find chalk art & a small fair going on. I also found the shake and fold movement thats going on currently. Kind of ironic that I found this because Ive never heard of shake and fold until this week! Now I am seeing it everywhere. I actually tried the method out and found out it surprisingly worked well. Lets reduce our footprint one step at a time! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Buy Used ClothesDo people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of "reduce" be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?
Lilly Meek 9/13/2018 11:21 PMFast fashion is unsustainable and most of the out of trend clothing from mass producers like forever21 dump their clothing or it ends up in third world countries and is left there like garbage. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Lilly Meek 9/13/2018 11:20 PMToday I had a healthier alternative Lunch.. I had a salad and soup. I will try to eat less meat based foods at least once a day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Lilly Meek 9/13/2018 6:08 PMI normally use straws from my universities Starbucks campus. Instead I can buy a reusable straw or deny straws to reduce my footprint.
