Brian's actions
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 10 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 4.09 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Brian Moore 10/11/2018 2:08 PMDoing good so far! How about y'all? -
Brian Moore 10/05/2018 1:49 PMAlready completed the first 3 days! -
Brian Moore 9/29/2018 4:06 PMI joined because I want to reduce my carbon footprint and be more environmentally aware than I was in the past. I chose certain actions here such as walking to short-distanced destinations to reduce the C02 emissions and because that is what I need to improve on the most. I also participated in Plastic Free July and I had a lot of fun! I hope to get started soon for this month! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Brian Moore 9/29/2018 4:02 PMPlastic bottles are easy because they are a one use item; however, it can be used and thrown away so much to the point where there in an infinite number of them and we do not know what to do with them. The only way to make a change is to force yourself and pace yourself as well. Buy a reusable water bottle and a pitcher with a filter. Just put tap water into the filter that comes with the pitcher, place in the refridgerator or add ice to make cold, and voila! More than 10 plastic bottles were saved. Also when in public, look for the water bottle refiller so you do not have to bring plastic water bottles with you everywhere! It's free, safe, and environmentally friendly! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Brian Moore 9/29/2018 3:59 PMRefusing to buy products that are not environmentally friendly and reusing some items daily. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not?
Brian Moore 9/29/2018 3:58 PMNo because I learned about this in my economics class and I know that the U.S. has different priorities such as government and the military. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Brian Moore 9/29/2018 3:56 PMOur area has electrity from a power station somewhere. It impacts the environment because it takes up space and needs a lot of energy to satisfy the city, country, or state population -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Brian Moore 9/29/2018 3:53 PMTurn lights off, unplug chargers that are not being used, turn off the TV when nobody is watching, walk to destinations that are short in distance, and much more
