Not sure why I am always reluctant for my yearly physical, I am always happy after it is over. I made the appointment today.

June's actions
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 20 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

June Myrick 10/22/2018 6:02 AMThis October ECO challenge has resulted in some positive permanent changes. No more daily plastic water bottles or coffee cups and I recycle more than ever. Moving forward I will be mindful of meatless meal options and try to stick to an earlier bedtime. -
June Myrick 10/12/2018 6:21 AMWhen we took out our trash cans this week, we only had one bag of trash. Our recycle can was half way full.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
June Myrick 10/06/2018 8:28 AMI have set a bed time and am sticking to it. I find by doing this I am getting a little more sleep. I feel better when rested.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
June Myrick 10/04/2018 9:37 AMI recycle everything I can. We even started recycling toilet paper rolls. When I shop, I now pay attention to packaging and will buy products that are packaged in material that is recyclable.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
June Myrick 10/03/2018 12:50 PMI now use reusable cups for everything. I bought several and keep them handy in case I forget to bring one somewhere. Most coffee houses will fill your reusable mugs if you bring them instead of using their paper cups.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
June Myrick 9/15/2018 7:58 AMRecently I have purchased reusable water thermoses I keep one for work and one for the car. At home we use filtered refrigerator water and a Britta filter. This has cut our plastic water bottle usage to almost zero.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
June Myrick 9/15/2018 7:53 AMWe eat a lot of fast food. North America needs to plan meals and make a grocery list. It will save time and money.
