Not sure why I am always reluctant for my yearly physical, I am always happy after it is over. I made the appointment today.

This October ECO challenge has resulted in some positive permanent changes. No more daily plastic water bottles or coffee cups and I recycle more than ever. Moving forward I will be mindful of meatless meal options and try to stick to an earlier bedtime.

When we took out our trash cans this week, we only had one bag of trash. Our recycle can was half way full.

I have set a bed time and am sticking to it. I find by doing this I am getting a little more sleep. I feel better when rested.

    Waste Recycle Everything I Can
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

I recycle everything I can. We even started recycling toilet paper rolls. When I shop, I now pay attention to packaging and will buy products that are packaged in material that is recyclable.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

I now use reusable cups for everything. I bought several and keep them handy in case I forget to bring one somewhere. Most coffee houses will fill your reusable mugs if you bring them instead of using their paper cups.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?

Recently I have purchased reusable water thermoses I keep one for work and one for the car. At home we use filtered refrigerator water and a Britta filter. This has cut our plastic water bottle usage to almost zero.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

We eat a lot of fast food. North America needs to plan meals and make a grocery list. It will save time and money.
