REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Hoang Samuelson 10/23/2018 3:03 PMWaste disposal methods concerns me quite a bit. I know waste has to go somewhere but it's usually done at the expense of other's lives. In certain places around the world, children live near dumpsters and utilize it as playgrounds. It's sad, but also I feel kind of fortunate (or ignorant, I don't know) that I live in a place that has waste disposal service and that the dump is nowhere near my home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food DesertsWhat are the implications of access to nutritious food for a community?
Hoang Samuelson 10/22/2018 1:48 PMAs I read recently in this article, We eat to nourish, to soothe, but also to recall a place or a feeling. " . -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Join my Neighborhood AssociationHow can your community support inclusive decision making?
Hoang Samuelson 10/22/2018 1:43 PMBy bringing together diverse minds and diverse thoughts, allowing everyone the opportunity to share what they feel is important. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Hoang Samuelson 10/19/2018 8:35 AMMy purchases tend to be, like for most people, related to emotions. Feelings that I get when I buy something. For example, last week when I was waiting for my husband to pick me up I felt the need to go get a coffee, simply because I felt like it. I didn't really need it, per se, but it was probably due to the crappy coffee that I got earlier in the day (free coffee, ya know) at an event, so I wanted to justify it by buying better coffee. I felt that this was a reflection of how I felt at the moment, not because of a true need to get it. So I ended up not buying it. -
Hoang Samuelson 10/10/2018 2:05 PMIt's going good. I realize that some of these things I already do, but this challenge helps me continue doing them. It's also great to see a lot of choices in this challenge. It shows that every small little action helps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Hoang Samuelson 10/06/2018 6:31 AMI feel like I'm actually paying attention to how much I'm eating, and in return affects how I feel afterwards. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Do you feel that this fact applies to you? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not?
Hoang Samuelson 10/04/2018 10:10 AMNot at all. I feel like the US places more emphasis on safety beyond, but not safety within our corridors.
