  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media is a great way to keep us connected with loved ones, makes us laugh, and helps us to learn new things. It can also take more time than we realize or intend to give. After doing this action for a few days now, how do you feel? What do you notice?

It is way to easy for me to zone out on insta for 30+ minutes when I get home and need a brain break. I've been reading a lot more (one of my favorite hobbies) and getting a lot more satisfaction from being reminded of this challenge.

    Nature Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

We live in such a beautiful place! It's easy to take it for granted and I've been grateful for the reminded encouragement to get out and explore.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

After 14 years as a vegetarian I started eating meat again for health reasons. It was a tough moral decision for me and the way that it felt right to me was by ensuring that a majority of the meat I eat (that's about 80/20 as it's harder when I eat out) is from ethical, sustainable, humane sources. The advantage of knowing where my food comes from is being able to confirm that it aligns with my values. We've recently switched from mostly buying from local farmers market to a service called Butcher Box - this challenge inspired me to research more about their practices rather than simply taking them at face value. I also visited a farm on sauvie island as part of our pumpkin patch visit and will definitely be going back there for produce more regularly.

    Energy Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?

That was so easy! Why hadn't we done that before - thanks for the nudge, EcoChallenge
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Simplicity Go for a Daily Walk
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

Working hard to take advantage of the lingering sunny weather. After WFH and not leaving my house much yesterday, a long evening walk was an amazing boost to the day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

I usually either toss smaller items in my big purse or often give into accepting a disposable bag when I forget to bring my reusable ones. That is why I'm taking on this challenge. I just located the convenient fold-up reusable bag that is supposed to live in my purse and put it back in it's proper place for those forgetful times.

    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

Daily learning is a personal value of mine. I use workouts as a time to listen to educational and informative podcasts.
