Minette 's actions
Nature
Tend a Garden
I will tend to a garden each day, or work on starting one.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
I will spend 30 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home.
Nature
Leave No Trace
I will practice the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Minette Visser 10/20/2018 10:42 AMWow. Found a bag of magazines in the back of my closet. Don’t even remember putting them there. Straight to the recycling bin then! I figure if I don’t even recall then they can’t be important to me at all. I had such an amazing time in the garden today. Saw bright purple butterflies and ladybugs and tadpoles. -
Minette Visser 10/06/2018 1:58 PMI have to admit, going on a walk in the veld with a three-year old and leaving no trace is... challenging. I managed to get him to stay on the paths, and keep the rocks he picked up on the path too. He wanted to pick flowers (he loves making arrangements for me at home) and luckily he understood our explanation of why we said “no”. Saw a lovely sunset from the kopje, all worth it! -
Minette Visser 10/05/2018 7:21 AMI'm in two minds about the "leave no trace" daily challenge ... if I didn't actually spend time out in nature (and, does a garden count as nature?) should I still tick it off? Technically, yes, I didn't leave a trace ... -
Minette Visser 10/03/2018 11:10 AMAfter dinner: tend to the garden. Then declutter. Before bed: journal 3 gratitude items. Again based on James Clear’s approach to find existing triggers to add new habits. -
Minette Visser 10/03/2018 11:08 AMGoing to follow the James Clear method for decluttering. So today, declutter one item. Tomorrow: two. Etc. I had to be a bit disciplined with this; was tempting to put in more effort on the first day. -
Minette Visser 10/03/2018 9:03 AMDay 1. It’s raining! So lovely for my garden. I would not have gone out if it wasn’t for the challenge, and some of my shrubs are in bloom for the first time in years
