    Transportation Improve a Bus Stop
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

There are 3 bus stops right next to my house and I was able to improve one of them. I've got two more to go... If the bus stops are clean, welcoming, and have more info about the service on display, perhaps more people will be encouraged to take public transit!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Work from Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?

    Amy VS 10/24/2018 9:36 AM
Yes, thankfully my company offers telework options. I work with such remarkable people and often I find I want to come into the office just to be and interact with them in person. I think that would be my biggest WFH struggle - feeling disconnected by the lack of in-person interaction with my wonderful coworkers.

    Food Choose Organic Ingredients
Can organic farming feed the world? Which side of the argument do you fall on? Why?

    Amy VS's avatar
    Amy VS 10/18/2018 2:07 PM
Absolutely, organic farming can feed the world. We're already throwing away loads of good produce, which is unfortunate and can go to programs like soup kitchens and such. Also, pesticides are harmful for our soil so the more we use them the more likely we'll run out of farm capable land. Organic farming is definitely a solution.

How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Amy VS's avatar
    Amy VS 10/11/2018 12:03 PM
Fortunately, I surround myself with friends who prioritize both quality time together and spending time in nature. It's all about scheduling plans to do so in one's calendar and sticking to it.

Every little bit makes a difference, and the difference starts at home - so I hear in any case. I do it because I care about living a damn good life on a happy and healthy planet.

How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Amy VS 10/09/2018 5:54 PM
It feels great to be a part of a mass of bikes commuting into work everyday. It's been such a good way to wake myself up in the morning and decompress after a day of work. Not to mention, biking makes my commute faster since I would practically be in a parking lot the entire way home if I drove.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Avoid refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    Amy VS's avatar
    Amy VS 10/09/2018 11:28 AM
I've done this sort of challenge before and know that yes, I am 'addicted' to sugar. Even just this morning, I reached for food with sugar in it and had to remind myself of this goal and consciously put the food back where it was. Tricky stuff! Ultimately, I feel so much better when I'm sugar free.
