REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Xuning Ying 10/22/2018 3:48 PMFeed it to a pet, since they seem to be the only ones who can seem to digest it. Or eat them ourselves, and find a way for them to be more enjoyable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Buy Used ClothesDo people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of "reduce" be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?
Xuning Ying 10/22/2018 3:48 PMWe can try support those who cannot support themselves. And instead of throwing out our used things, we can donate it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Improve a Bus StopHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Xuning Ying 10/22/2018 3:46 PMYou can try walking, or biking. If you need to get somewhere faster, then you can use a bike which is fast, but also isn't as bad for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Xuning Ying 10/21/2018 9:56 AMI have noticed that I sometimes make purchases that I don't really need. but I purchase the Item anyways because I want it. I will probably try to cut down the amount of unneeded items in my cart. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Eliminate Toxic PlasticsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Xuning Ying 10/21/2018 9:50 AMI regularly use plastic bags, and bottles, just because they're somewhat cheap and convenient. I could substitute the plastic bags with paper ones and use reusable water bottles. -

Xuning Ying 10/18/2018 4:37 PMWe are putting the things we actually need to survive, for the things that we don't really need. I ask, in the end, how do we want our actions to reflect on ourselves? Where will we be in a few decades because of our actions today? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Organize a CourseHow can you use NWEI programs to help mobilize your community to take action toward a sustainable future?

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Car ShareTake a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Xuning Ying 10/15/2018 5:02 PMYes, since most of the places we go are public spaces. And for example for orchestra rehearsals, we have to drive all the way to Saratoga, so carpooling could save a lot of energy and not to mention gas.
