Lauren Lyda-Priest 10/13/2018 11:05 PMWow, I couldn't agree more! And well said. I have lots of people make fun of me for even trying to change how us Westerners see things. I recently started minimalism and low waste living and it's amazing how many people can't wrap their minds around it!! To me it makes sense it so many aspects. I have more time to commit to others and myself by limiting what I consume. I am very happy with my way of life and couldn't ask for much more.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Aubrey Baldwin 10/12/2018 4:00 AMWhen I observe natural systems, I see the balance that must exist for anything to thrive. Too much water will kill a plant as dead as too little. Too many deer negatively impact the ecosystem as much as too few. Humans (in Western society) are woefully out of balance in pretty much every way, including our consumption, our elevation of work for wages as a primary life activity, and our neglect of culture. -
