Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

One food choice I made to do more good and less harm is to not eat meat. I've been vegetarian for about four years! A choice I could make is to reduce my dairy consumption. I use alternative "milks" and I've definitely reduced my ice cream intake, but I still love cheese and butter!

I've been MIA for checking in since Thursday due to a concussion. I can't ride my bike or use the electric scooter share systems until all of my symptoms are gone, which is a bummer. However, I was finally able to go to a farmer's market on Sunday and got in a lot of walking over the weekend! Win some, lose some.

Looks like one of my toes is broken and I might have a bit of a concussion from falling down the stairs yesterday, but I still managed to bike to work this morning! My head is absolutely killing me, but at least biking is less toe work than driving, plus it benefits the environment!

No biking today :( I fell down the stairs this morning and smashed my toes. Hopefully they'll feel better tomorrow!

Plastics and human wastefulness are wreaking havoc on our earth, and it's not just in the middle of the Pacific ocean. A black bear cub was just rescued from a plastic tub stuck over its head this weekend. This is just one more reason to be mindful of our single use plastics!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

My garden is busting with banana peppers, so I'd love to learn how to pickle and preserve these for the winter. My mom loves putting them on pizza and salads, so they'd definitely be used!

It's starting to feel like autumn! My bike ride this morning was nice and cool, but a bit too breezy. It really smells like fall is in the air! I can't wait to get outside in the changing leaves and really enjoy the season. I think this is probably the time of year that people most appreciate nature and the environment. I hope that will encourage people to help clean the earth, at least for a month or two.

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Megan Beveridge's avatar
    Megan Beveridge 10/11/2018 1:43 PM
My biggest concern about how we affect the planet is that we'll go so far that we will give up on making it better. Just on a local level, when people see that there's trash on their street they just shrug and figure they don't have to worry about it because it's never going to get better. It's so hard to feel like we can make a difference!

No biking today because of the rain this morning :( I wish there was reliable public transportation to get to work, but I'd have to go so far out of my way, it would take over an hour to get there. I'll just have to hope for better weather!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

    Megan Beveridge's avatar
    Megan Beveridge 10/10/2018 9:43 AM
While looking for local recycling depots, I found that it's difficult to determine what gets recycled and what gets scrapped or sent to landfill. Some drop off locations take yard waste, but where does it go? Other places take electronics, but how much of that can be reused?
