Water
Fix Leaky Faucets
I will fix faucets or report leaky faucets to facilities that have been wasting up to 9 gallons (34 L) of water per faucet every day.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Waste
Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 15 minutes visiting a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Jaynie Bird 10/10/2018 2:31 PMI was able to stop to watch a squirrel eat. I would never have been able to stop and watch the method the squirrel took in eating in a car, I do not think I would have even noticed that a squirrel was there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Jaynie Bird 10/10/2018 2:30 PMI find myself being in a more positive mindset. I was having negative feelings and negative self talk, but once I started 'forcing' myself to look at the positive, it kinda trickled into my other thoughts as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Jaynie Bird 10/10/2018 2:28 PMIt was really interesting for me to see what I was doing. I did not realize that even with my smaller steps before, I was still having an impact on my waste amounts and there is more that I can do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Jaynie Bird 10/10/2018 2:17 PMI try to turn off lights when I am not in the room. I unplug different appliances when not in use, like the toaster.
