Steven Day 10/24/2018 2:10 AMThis has been a fun way of learning to think and of being reminded of what is important. Thanks to my Pure Planet colleagues for the encouragement and for fielding a great team. -
Reflection QuestionHealth Learn About Local Environmental Justice ConcernsWho is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Steven Day 10/24/2018 2:08 AMI spent some time talking to a parish councillor about a new housing development near to where I live; and about what was being down to protect the natural environment, water sources, and drainage - as well as for people, and their safety. The housing is near to a fast road and there is a local debate about where and how to locate a road crossing. One view frames the potential location from the perspective of drivers; the other from pedestrians... I think the foot bound one should win, to make it nearer to the centre of the development, and the traffic slowed to deal with it. It's complex! -
Reflection QuestionEnergy Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for programmable ones will positively impact your life?
Steven Day 10/12/2018 12:00 PMWe changed the radiators, not just the thermastats. The old ones were inefficient. These, though a cost upfront, will perform much better - and more cheaply in the long run. -
Reflection QuestionEnergy Upgrade Heating & Cooling UnitsWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
-
Reflection QuestionFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Steven Day 10/11/2018 2:38 AMBuying local, from our farm shop is easy, quick, and much more personal than the supermarket. It's not as flash, but the food is produced on local farms, and we buy organic.-
Chris Shaw 10/12/2018 1:58 PMShopping in Stroud market on Saturday is a delight. All the Fresh vegetables and fruit you could want and not a plastic bag in sight.
Also delicious indian street food served in paper bags.

Reflection QuestionFood Choose Organic IngredientsCan organic farming feed the world? Which side of the argument do you fall on? Why?
Steven Day 10/11/2018 2:37 AMWe buy our food from a local farm shop - all organic, and grown locally. Some things are more expensive than the supermarkets in town, some things aren't. On balance it's evens I think. Plus it's good to shop local, and reduce the food miles. -
Reflection QuestionTransportation Go by BikeHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Steven Day 10/10/2018 8:09 AMDid my back in the other day, but back on the bike today... and what a glorious blue Pure Planet sky day for it. -
Reflection QuestionWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Steven Day 10/09/2018 5:16 AMIt’s well worth having a chat with your local supermarket staff about packaging. I did. The more staff understand that the store needs to change because if customer feedback the more likely that message will perculate internally. -
Reflection QuestionWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Steven Day 10/07/2018 3:59 AMCounted the cartons, the cardboard and compost volumes... way too much packaging coming into our household. Discussed the need to reduce it over breakfast as a family this morning. The key target for now is food in plastic packaging. -
Reflection QuestionNature Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Steven Day 10/07/2018 3:51 AMI spent an hour or so outside in the chill, damp wind yesterday. Bracing. There was also a low cloud sky, which was dramatic to watch. It made going back indoors all the more appreciated!
