Robin's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 5 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 20 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?
Robin Donoho 10/21/2018 7:57 AMThe easiest way is not always the best way. Halloween is a perfect example. Your child wants to be a superhero and wants the costume from the cataloge . With a little bit of creativity, you can pull items from your closet, buy a few inexpensive items at the dollar store, and make an amazing superhero that your child can help create and will be a unique and undoubtedly a better costume then you would have bought. You've saved yourself money, avoided purchasing a disposable garment, and returned simplicity to the household -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Adjust the ThermostatYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Robin Donoho 10/19/2018 4:03 AMI keep my A/C at a steady 80 degrees so there is less adjusting, keep blinds down during the day while I'm working to insulate, turn off the computer when away, do laundry only with full loads, and use the oven sparingly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Robin Donoho 10/17/2018 1:21 PMI am trying to invest more time in what I'm thankful for. That can be the little things like the smell of freshly cut grass or the big things like my sister being one year post cancer. Everyday there is something wonderful that happens if we just take the time to stop and think. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Robin Donoho 10/15/2018 1:59 PMthe biggest barrier to using water bottles is the availability of fountains to refill them when you are out. When traveling overseas, there are plentiful fountains in the community to refill consumers personal water bottles. The water is always fresh and cold, so there is no need to purchase water bottles. (In fact, there are very few sold in other countries) We need to be more proactive in doing the same in our own country -

Robin Donoho 10/07/2018 7:41 PMwith the start of a little bit cooler weather, I've been able to turn off my A/C completely! Lots of energy saved. -
Robin Donoho 10/04/2018 6:07 PMSkipping the straw has been the easiest challenge, I started doing this several months ago and still enjoy my beverages just as much! -
Robin Donoho 10/03/2018 3:40 PMI volunteer my time and resources to North Florida Land Trust. A area non-profit, their mission is to preserve our land for future generations. They do this through land donation, acquisition and other strategies. Growing up, my parents always planted at least one tree every year to give back to the environment, I believe i am continuing their mission in my own way
