Rithy Khut 9/25/2018 1:30 PMYou might try to go to Ota Tofu on SE Stark. Here is a article about them from a few years ago. They are the oldest tofu company in Portland and have a great history.

Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 30 minutes visiting a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

Holly Freewynn 9/29/2018 3:11 PMI am consistently challenged by the EcoChallenge, as I strive to find more and more I can do, as a consumer, to mitigate my time on Earth. My family and I work toward a variety of "eco-goals" to help each other and the planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Holly Freewynn 8/25/2018 2:20 PMI am started to learn how to make my own yogurt (this is a significant single use packaged item we use). Also, I am researching where I can get bulk tofu in town, and will visit those places that sell bulk tofu to find my favorite. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteField trip! What a fun way to learn about our impact and consumption! What facility did you visit? What did you learn? Did you take anyone with you?
Holly Freewynn 8/25/2018 2:18 PMI plan to go to our hazmat facility to dispose of some oil-based paints. I want to find out more about how they divert these items, and make them as harmless as possible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Holly Freewynn 8/25/2018 2:17 PMWe stopped drinking bottled water a long time ago. My goal is to convince my mom to stop buying single use bottled water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Holly Freewynn 8/25/2018 2:17 PMI have a couple of mugs I rotate to prevent getting a disposable mug. I have learned that CLEANING the mug must be a consideration, so we are working on that at home to make using a reusable mug easy and fast. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Holly Freewynn 8/25/2018 2:15 PMTogether, our family committed to asking for no straws in July of 2018. We purchased a set of reusable metal straws so we can add them to our utensil pouch we each are making.-

Colleen Foster 8/26/2018 7:42 PMGreat idea on the creation of a utensil pouch. I knew about glass straws but not reusable metal ones. Thank you for the tips.
