REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow do you practice self care?
Kristie Holdren 10/08/2018 9:52 AMI practice self care by taking relaxing walks and meditating. I also enjoy reading! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Kristie Holdren 10/08/2018 9:51 AMI have recently set a goal for zero food wasted in our home. So far we are doing great! I would much rather save and/or invents the $1500/year that we waste each year on food! -
Kristie Holdren 10/07/2018 5:49 PMI wanted to order pizza tonight instead of cooking, but have chosen not to, saving both money and resources! -
Kristie Holdren 10/06/2018 9:41 AMHello EarthStars! One of the commitments I have made with the challenge is to lead a five week Voluntary Simplicity class. Would anyone be interested in joining in? I wanted to ask before I ordered the class manual to make sure there was some interest.-

Dawn Hartley 10/10/2018 6:57 AMKristie, I've been thinking about this idea. November/December might be a great time for this course, because many people feel overwhelmed during the holidays. If we did the course on Sunday mornings, we could invite people from the community as well as church members. What would you think of that time period? Let me know if I can do anything to help. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityHow is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?
Kristie Holdren 10/06/2018 9:34 AMWhen practicing simplicity we sometimes need to get creative with activities! If you aren't accumulating things, then pastimes like shopping and going out to eat are OUT THE DOOR! We have to be creative and think about things we can do to create entertainment for ourselves without spending money! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Kristie Holdren 10/06/2018 9:32 AMI began budgeting and tracking my purchases diligently in August. Since then, I have been able to cut over $1,000 per month from my monthly expenses. That money is now being used to pay of debt!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Kristie Holdren 10/06/2018 9:31 AMI am making a concerted effort to stop accumulating things I do not need. I feel like "stuffitits" and "affluenza" are a major problem in our society and most people don't even realize it. We try to accumulate things to impress people we don't even care about. I want to have minimal things and more real experiences with people! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityWhat are some of the barriers to sharing economies? What is your plan for supporting or creating one in your community?
Kristie Holdren 10/06/2018 9:29 AMI miss the days of neighbor sharing with neighbor. In my experience, people are much less likely these days to share things and experiences with one another. Everyone seems closed, retreating to their boxes (houses) at the end of a day to recover from a day of hard work.-
Monica Martin 10/06/2018 11:45 AMUnfortunately, I have to agree with you on this one. I've dreamed up an approach that I might help this situation but I've never put it to the test. Big exhale. At some point I need to get over myself and give it a try...
