Reflection QuestionFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
CHRISTI JUSTICE 10/10/2018 5:35 PMFood insecurity has been something I have dealt with for a while now and it amazes me the amount of food we, as Americans, throw out. Personally for me, I doubt I throw out more than a pound or two a month, and that would be only due to it going bad. I try to get things that will go with or as part of many different meals, and make sure that I use it all. I have been called the "queen of casseroles"-I can get quite creative with how and what I use. But that's how I stretch what I have and make sure it doesn't go to waste.-
Donna Bezio 10/10/2018 7:40 PMThat's awesome! I need to try more casseroles for leftovers. I've been meaning to try the ugly produce by mail - produce that they can't sell at grocery stores but is perfectly good. Your goal is inspiring me!

Reflection QuestionWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
CHRISTI JUSTICE 10/09/2018 4:54 PMNormally, I have one of those reusable bags that bunch up really small in my purse, but I have had this happen a few times. I was lucky and was able to find a paper bag in a recycle bin most of those times, and once used a cardboard box and then recycled it after I got home. -
Reflection QuestionHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
CHRISTI JUSTICE 10/09/2018 4:48 PMI have chronic high blood pressure and I learned a long time ago the negative health affects that stress can cause. I have had to learn how to not stress over things and "just let it go." I have been able to do that by using humor and walking my dog.
When I start feeling my stress level rise, I usually will crack a joke, usually sarcastic. Laughter, or even just smiling helps my stress level to decrease. I get my kids in on it too, when it's them causing me stress. Instead of yelling at them out of anger, I will say (and sometimes yell) the most silliest, off-the-wall-things and they will just laugh at their "Silly Mom", and their laughter works miracles. For those times that it's a more personal type of stress, I take my dog for a good, long walk and get some quality me-time (or I guess it'd be me-and-Rocky-time)..
When I see some one I know and I can tell that they are stressing over something, I've been known to just walk up to them and say "STRESS KILLS" in a funny kind of way and it works most of the time (now I don't do it to perfect strangers, just people that know me),. Sometimes, that's all that's needed and other times we talk about what's causing their stress. -
Reflection QuestionWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
