  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

I found places that accepted electronics, paint and medications.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

Driving less and walking more would both cut emissions and help us get exercise.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Have a Garage Sale
Building community is good for your soul and fun to do! What were some of the positive outcomes that came out of your group garage sale?

I love being able to resell or donate items to neighbors who's kids are younger than mine.  It saves them money and saves us money when we are able to buy from our neighbors.  The more our clothes and toys can be reused, the better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Take Control
How do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?

    Kristie Marx 10/11/2018 7:37 AM
In order to be personally healthy, it is important to live in a supportive community that provides resources to exercise, eat right, etc.

How do you practice self care?

I try to find time to work out or get outside.  I find any type of exercise helps me distress.  I also try to make time to meet people or meet up with friends or family.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

I carry things in my purse or backpack or just out in my hands.  I need to get some reusable bags to carry around when I do larger shopping like getting food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity De-Clutter My Home
How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?

    Kristie Marx 10/03/2018 8:56 AM
I think making decluttering a weekly occurrence, instead of letting things pile up would really help.  It should be a weekly job to declutter one or two drawers or shelves.  I think the more consistent I am with decluttering, the better luck I will have.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Kristie Marx 10/03/2018 8:54 AM
I have kids and a dog, so it's easy to incorporate them into my exercise routine.  I also love being outdoors all year (yes, even winter!).  I love to take the kids and dog out for hikes.  Sometimes we walk to the store instead of driving.  I am always trying to be creative with ways we can be outside and burning off energy.  Hopefully in the future we can do some outdoor yard projects as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

No, this does not surprise me!  Our family throws away so much food we have intentions of eating, but then we get busy and end up tossing it because it expires.   We probably throw away between $20-30 a week. I think I want to start shopping every few days, rather than spending a ton of money one day that is supposed to   I would much rather spend the money we waste of food to take the family on a fun vacation.
