Last day, everyone!  Let's keep the new habits going all year!

Stocked up on produce and bulk beans and lentils yesterday to make some more vegetarian options this week.  Cold, wet weather is kicking in those comfort food cravings--time to break out the barley, carrots, and asparagus with thyme...

Yesterday I took advantage of the break in weather to go walking at the park and do some cleanup in my yard.  I couldn't do all the pruning I wanted because our local pair of foxes decided to hang out in the back corner all afternoon and I didn't want to scare them away, but I did plant some more lemon thyme for cooking this week. :-)

My favourite chocolate pound cake has been discontinued, but having just seen the ingredients that's probably a good thing!  Now I'm on the hunt for an imitation recipe that's healthier for me to make at home.  I can sub in yogurt and reduce the sugar for sure.

Not going to lie, this cold and dreary weather is making it challenging to do my daily walk!  I can't wait to see the sun again next week.

The weather is super nasty this week but I'm going to bundle up and walk outside anyway.  With all the rain my yard is going crazy and I'm hoping it will help my figs and lemons this year...

I'm so thankful to be back home and in control of my meals again.  The conference hotel did offer a nice perk of $5 food coupon for every night declining towels/room cleaning, so it was nice to save money and help sustainability all week.  And I sure used the heck out of my reusable bamboo mug!

My bamboo travel mug came in handy on the plane and I was pleased to see the United flight crew separating trash and recyclables.  Unfortunately the Dulles airport only had paper and can recycling, nothing for plastic.  Luckily I packed my own food and resisted the lure of the Starbucks bakery counter!

Heading to a conference tomorrow and packing up my reusable mug and silicone sandwich bag for travel meals.  I plan to refuse straws, decline the towel/linen service, and say no to conference "freebies" that just end up as clutter.  Bummed to miss out on making my own zero-waste meals for five days, though.  On the other hand, I'll be taking advantage of public transport.
