I planted calendula, cosmos and statice in some of my containers this year and the bees and other pollinators loved them.  They are on my radar for next garden season.  I even saw on on a calendula bloom yesterday when the sun came out.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Buy Used Clothes
Do people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of "reduce" be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?

I rarely buy clothes at all.  They only new ones I buy are underwear and Verve organic yoga pants as I teach yoga.  I've had some things in my wardrobe for close to 2 decades.

Just submitted comments on the Roadless Rule for the Tongass National Forest - absolutely crucial and took action on an option for the Chugach National Forest in another part of Alaska and asked our Governor to StandwithForests which are crucial to the health of God's creation.

What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

After seeing "Plastic Oceans" I'm so glad I don't frequent cafes and fast food places that use loads of plastic.  I also bring my own bags (BMOB) when I shop.  Now if Organic Valley could ditch the little straws on their single serve milks.

We need to give up single serving packaging just as much as the straws that come with it!!!

My spiritual path and the time I regularly spend in God's creation is what inspires me.  Two-leggeds need to steward creation well and we haven't.  To this end, I "pick, click, give" a portion of my PFD to benefit organizations like the Alaska Chapters of Nature Conservancy as well as Audobon

I took a beautiful walk in nature on Sitka's Cross Trail today and saw a brown creeper making it's way up a tree singing all the way.
