Chris's actions
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 2 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 60 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 3 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 10 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.

Chris Shaw 10/07/2018 2:01 PMBeen researching Green Party policy today. Seriously thinking about switching my vote to them. Not just as a protest vote, but a a permanent switch to a political approach that puts sustainability at the heart of things -
Chris Shaw 10/06/2018 3:52 PMHere's a health,money and waste tip rolled into one ....
If you buy a commercial cereal, then switch over to porridge. First it's more delicious, second it contains no added sugar, third it is ridiculously cheap and fourth, it comes loose in a cardboard box. No plastic packaging.
You can make it the traditional way, or roast with nuts and berries to make granola -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Chris Shaw 10/05/2018 1:11 PMThe different types of plastic that can and can't be recycled is a huge problem. We need to have a consistent standard.-
Sophie Lichfield 10/05/2018 3:06 PMAgreed. The amount and types of plastic we can recycle where I live is pitiful compared to some other areas
