Carmen's actions
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 1 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Community
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is a sustainability problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Community
Help Others
I will offer to help 1 person(s) who are in need each day.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Carmen Spangaro 10/22/2018 6:14 AMPrepare and then set at least a few minutes to eat. - without multi-tasking. If alone, remove all electronics, etc and focus on what you have prepared and enjoy it, after all you spent your time preparing a delicious meal, right? If with family and friends, enjoy a good listen to stories of love ones, and join in for a good laugh and experience while surrounding with good healthy options in front.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Carmen Spangaro 10/22/2018 6:11 AMVery simple. Be part of the solution. Find out ways why things are not working (not easy to recycle in your area, etc) and find out what the community is doing or not doing, and be part of that solution. Also the best way is to also practice what you preach, and that is something I'm trying to do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Carmen Spangaro 10/22/2018 6:09 AMYes, With your hands. Simple and nothing much to think about. Or you can use the cart, as I do, bring it to your car and then I have a cart in my car all the times, so I transfer it from my car to my apt. Simple. -
