Daily EcoTip: Water is a finite resource: Only 2.5% of all the water on Earth is fresh water, and more than two-thirds is frozen or stored below ground as ground water. This means that only 0.3% of all fresh water on the planet is readily available as surface water. You can help conserve this essential, limited resource by first calculating your water footprint, and then reading about 5 simple steps that will contribute to its conservation.

Complex problems are multifaceted by nature. Solutions to these problems do not need to follow a routine or purely logical order - creativity leads to innovation.

    Waste Personal Waste Audit
Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

I think it's difficult to understand the impact of our purchases and waste because we don't always see or feel the after effects personally. I will continue to reduce, as my first line of action for consumption, especially when my consumption may result in non-biodegradable waste.

Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

I am a long-time vegetarian, which helps me avoid contributing to the environmental harm caused by meat production. I could consider transitioning to veganism to further reduce the harms caused by my food choices.

I've recently started making my own almond milk and I wish I had made the switch earlier. First, it's not hard at all, or incredibly time consuming. It tastes MUCH better (and you can sweeten it using natural sweeteners like honey or dates). And finally, you can turn the pulp into almond meal/flour to bake with later. No more going through 2-3 almond milk cartons a day for this house (which aren't recyclable in our area because it's coated paper). Here's a recipe for anyone that wants to try it! https://minimalistbaker.com/how-to-make-almond-milk/

Thank you, Martha! A great reminder for me to try this out. I do a lot of baking, but this would add yet another step of nourishment!
