Houston Mennonite Church Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

The EcoChallenge is almost over! Looks like our team is doing pretty well, though we're missing a lot of check-ins. Don't forget to make your last check-ins before the competition is over! Go team!

Powering down my computer has been great! It's given me more time to enjoy life and do things like play with my dog or read a book.

I continue to try to be mindful of conserving toilet water.

Really enjoyed having my coffee this morning outside, watching the leaves blow in the wind, before it started to rain --- cool weather = awesome.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Meditate
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

"Fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy." That's what Paul said in Phil 4. A great list!

I have found the meditative music in worship lately to be very, very helpful. Giving yourself the time to think, with no need to produce anything, makes me relax all through my body.
I want to reflect more on how to be a non-anxious parent.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media is a great way to keep us connected with loved ones, makes us laugh, and helps us to learn new things. It can also take more time than we realize or intend to give. After doing this action for a few days now, how do you feel? What do you notice?

Facebook asked me today, in a one question survey, "Does facebook make the world better?" My answer was basically yes and no. Like most things, it was created good, has fallen, and can be redeemed or weaponized.
Keeping facebook at arms length has made me healthier and more stable. What started as a facebook fast months ago has become a habit now.  And FYI, if you post something important on facebook, please don't assume I know about it.

Asking to use my own mug at a coffee shop was not as awkward as I had anticipated!

Yea? that's great. What shop were you at?
It's been a long time since I've done that. But once I was asked (or told) not to do that. I think I remember the reason being they wanted to ensure cleanliness.

The challenge of eating mindfully has not been as difficult for me, but I want to keep practicing.

Reducing water use by not flushing the toilet as much is a habit I hope we can continue.
