    Food Plant an Herb Garden
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

I have been bothering my husband to plant a garden since we moved in! I have had trouble keeping plants alive but I think I need to just try it out again. We have a raised area in the front yard that currently has a few scattered landscaping plants but  I think would work great as a garden and we would relocate the plants to another area. We have seeds for herbs, fruits, and vegetables - I think we may just need to get them in the ground and let the rain do the work!

    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

I see that my family wastes food from time to time and I really want to end this by being more diligent with food prepping. In order to do this I will need to plan 3 days at a time and I will only buy the ingredients I need for those meals. What has been an issue for waste is that I create meals with leftovers for the next day, however since there aren't enough leftovers for all three of us we just make another meal and the leftovers go uneaten. I would rather use this money for savings or to help pay down the mortgage.

This challenge was really great. Nice work, partners! I hope we do it again in the future!

    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

Know the best thing about bringing my own bags along to the grocery store?   I can actually bring ALL the groceries in from the car in ONE trip without cutting off the the circulation in my arms!

Great, what a great way to be held accountable.

    Health More Fruits and Veggies
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How can we start shifting from a meat-focused food culture to a more plant-based one?

I think what helped me in my shift to plant-based meals was to try new recipes that are not exactly replacements of meals I used to eat when I was eating meat. For example, I have not found a stellar veggie lasagna that is exactly like the meat one I used to love. But, I have found really awesome pasta dishes that are plant-based. For me, this shift from comparing dishes to my old favorite based on what it was missing to celebrating how delish a new dish tastes, has helped me feel like I have not lost anything. I have actually only gained new recipes and dishes!

Hi! So in my last post, I had hoped that my bike commute home (basically all uphill) would be getting easier with some more consistency.. Two fun things happened today: I noticed on my way in, on the tiny uphill section, that I didn’t have to down shift all the way. And on my ride home tonight, I got a new PR on one of the hill sections! Not by much, but this was against my fastest time (and previous PR) when a coyote crossed in from of me the other night and I didn’t want to dilly dally. 😋 I think this is the beginning of my consistency paying off!

“When we experience positive emotions, we think more clearly, solve creative problems, work more productively, build fruitful relationships, and even increase our colleagues’ productivity. When we’re calm rather than stressed or anxious, we also make better decisions and fewer mistakes.”
