  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Work-Life Balance
Is practicing work-life balance difficult to do? How does it feel when you first begin? How does this feel for you after 21 days?

Work life balance is difficult for me. I find myself getting absorbed into what I am doing towards the end of my day and staying later than I should sometimes. I get in early with the thought I might leave early and it never works out that way.

What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

I'm still finding this one the hardest to do. I have issues with clearing my mind. I will work harder at meditation, I'm considering a yoga class, that may help.

What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

I hate to say it, but the pollution in my area is more than what I thought it was. We have issues with water purity, soil contamination and air quality. I'm asthmatic already, and am considering purchasing a Vog mask to help reduce the issues I am facing with the air.

How do you practice self care?

Self care not only means going to the doctor, but not allowing them to brush off persistent symptoms you are experiencing. A simple back ache could mean something more serious. The doctors kept telling me stretch more and take pain pills. After three years, they finally diagnosed me with stage two cancer. Know your body, when things feel different, especially when it does not feel right, keep going to the doctor.

I'm so sorry to hear that Mari-Lynn.  My husband was diagnosed recently after a similar situation.  All the best to you!

When I went strawless, I went totally strawless. Because I am not drinking from a straw, I'm more conscientious about what I drink. A lot less soda pop and a lot more water. My teeth are starting to whiten on their own, because I'm not drinking as much coffee or dark sodas.

How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?

I plan to think at least 48 hours before buying anything. Also, if you menu plan for the week then create a list of grocery items and stick to it, you'll be less apt to buy things you don't need. Lastly, when you go shopping, eat before you go.

While shopping I'm not limiting myself - I put in the bag everything I want, and I think ower buying it while continue shopping. Thus, I own these things for a little amount of time (this is what I consider my brain thinks), and before paying I'm getting things I decided not to buy on their place.

What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

After the last eco challenge, my bicycle broke down and I have neglected getting it fixed. I plan to spend the cash to get it back up and running so I can start wheeling for groceries and other assorted journeys, rather than using my car.

I'm twice the person I was in high school. Literally. I am. I plan to swap out sitting in front of the computer, with exercise for the duration of this eco challenge, and take into consideration the excess and waste that I have been guilty of for many decades. Meditation is also on the list, I find myself not as relaxed as I was. There is a great need to find myself, I feel kind of lost. Let's see what happens...stay tuned. Looking forward to hearing what you are doing to make this challenge meaningful.
