Jeffrey's actions
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 4 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 15 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Community
Talk To My Friends and Colleagues
I will research the social or environmental issues in my community that matter to me and tell 10 friends and/or colleagues each day about what I learn.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 30 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Jeffrey Scanlon 10/04/2018 7:58 PMSo far, the challenge has been difficult. I've found it difficult to accomplish everything I want to do in one day. Today I only had time for 3 out of my 5 personal actions. I think there will be some days where I'm not able to complete all 5, but I still think this will help me build better habits and learn more about my personal impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Jeffrey Scanlon 10/04/2018 7:55 PMI can drop off glass at the East Recycling Center, and today I was able to collect glass bottles for an event at our house. However, I still need to learn more about aluminum. We recycle paper and plastic in our curbside bin.-
Dawn Hartley 10/05/2018 6:12 AMTry again, sorry.
ALL METAL & ALUMINUM CANS: empty food and drink cans, empty aerosol cans, foils and trays.
You can put all items in the cart together - no separation is required.

Dawn Hartley 10/05/2018 6:10 AMOops, I meant steel and aluminum. -
Dawn Hartley 10/05/2018 6:08 AMYou can recycle all metal and aluminum containers in your bin. Yay!

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Talk To My Friends and ColleaguesWhat makes you feel connected to your neighborhood, your neighbors, or another kind of community in your life?
Jeffrey Scanlon 10/04/2018 7:53 PMI feel connected to community when we come together across lines of difference and discuss different perspectives of the same topic.
