Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
I attended a program on the restoration of the American Chestnut tree. Conservationists are working on making these trees resistant to the Chestnut blight that was introduced into this country over 100 years ago.
I bought carbon offsets for a trip I will be taking through My Climate https://www.myclimate.org/ a company based in Switzerland. You can calculate and compensate for C02 emissions from your airline flight, auto commute, ship cruise, personal carbon footprint, and other activities. MyClimate supports projects that use renewable energies, realise energy efficiency measures and cut methane emissions, as well as reforestation and new forest initiatives that reduce the pressure on forests and biodiversity "hot spots".
There is a free Drawdown Learn Live Stream event coming up on October 19th. Project Drawdown is the most unexpected and hopeful development in the critical effort to reverse global warming. They're looking for groups to host Live Stream Satellite Events on October 19th, but individuals can also register for the free live stream and have on-demand access to the video afterwards. I would love to host an event at my house that night but can't. I will see if I can get permission to screen the video at my office at a later date. https://www.eomega.org/online-workshops/drawdown-learn-live-stream
Last night I saw an Eastern Screech Owl in my yard! As I was driving down my heavily wooded, long gravel driveway, a bird flitted into view thru my car's headlights and landed on a tree. It looked like a small tawny bump clinging to the trunk of the large tree. When it swiveled it's head around to look at me, I felt honored to finally meet the bird that's been calling all summer long in the middle of the night. Then it flew away to find more privacy.
Those of us who do not live close to the Earth sometimes forget that we need to nurture new growth with the soil of what is past. All our experiences form compost for our souls, from which new insights and new love can grow. We must be patient with our inner changes, knowing that new growth will break through in time. ~Daily Meditations on the Feminine Spirit
I saw this funky fungus the other day and wanted to share it with everyone. It's called a Coral Fungus because it looks like an oceanic coral formation. The image is a bit blurry - maybe because they are "magic mushrooms"? No - because my old cell phone camera can't handle up-close-and-personal shots!
How neat! There are SO many different types of fungus out there. I used to forage when I lived in SC. Shrooms like hen of the woods and oyster mushrooms grew wild and in abundance where I used to live. I worked at a culinary nursery with a mycologist who taught me a lot about mushroom foraging.
