    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

I would love to use the money on remodeling my bathroom- oh that would be an amazing soaker tub!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Foods Diet
Michael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?

Fair point-  I love buying direct from the farmer when I can.

Nature cleans my air, filters my water, restores my sense of connectedness to the important processes that support life on this earth. Watching birds and small animals forage and play delights the soul and reminds me of the need to protect as much as we can for the health of the vulnerable members of the planet, including us humans.

Talking with my neighbors regularly allows us to share extra food rather than letting it go to waste.

As I ride through town on a bike, I notice more than from a car. I see and sometimes interact with people and other animals.  I notice the weather, the air quality, the sky, the ground--really have to pay attention to the ground.  I notice litter, including plastics that may soon wash into the river, and I wish I could pick them up, but I have to get somewhere... so I pick up only one and make sure it gets into a closed disposal... only one, but so much better than no action at all.  I feel more active when I bike!

I ordered a bamboo and a stainless steel straw with the discount earned through the challenge. Also ordered a veggie scrubber brush. I hadn't thought to use a non-plastic version. The plastic versions never last very long. I'm very excited to try a couple new items that wouldn't have crossed my mind.

    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?

Our Composting will go back into our garden in the spring, we'll continue to turn it over the winter as much as we are able.  It's amazing how the volume breaks down and shrinks.
