Don't stop at garage sales. Ask myself, is this a need or a want? Only shop online for those items noted as needs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Habit and the fact that meat has been so plentiful for quite a while. Also, probably a strong lobbying presence that secures public lands for grazing for virtually nothing.

This one was a challenge. But I am remaining meatless and eating more fresh foods. Oddly, it was not as expensive as I thought it would be. And the thing I miss the most is a can of salty green beans (processed food deprivation). Well, ok, I miss mayo too, but now I will use the vegan mayo.

Taking a shower at night has always been my practice and in the past I have gone to bed with my hair wet.  You can imagine how "beautiful" I look when I crawl out of bed.  In the morning I would rewet my hair and blow it dry.  During the Eco Challenge I have changed this habit and have begun drying my hair right out of the shower.  It saves water and my mornings are less crowded with tasks to finish before work.

Where I've been, where I am and where I want to go.  What can I do better?  How can I be better, kinder, and more mindful that my words and actions affect the world around me?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

It's really difficult to put down electronics, not check social media, email or watch TV.  I turned off my landline years ago and its natural to carry my cell everywhere.  With my cell I have access to everything.  Have a question, Google the answer.  Want to read, check the newest books on Kindle.  Want to see what's happening in the world, check out the news...  I chose spending more time with my dog.  We've played some soccer and toss the dino.  He's really happy and now when he sees me checking my phone, he nudges my are as if to say, "put that down."
