  • REFLECTION QUESTION

A no brained would be exercising with friends but calling a friend while on a walk would also work.

I had one more challenge to complete today which was to advocate for better food packaging options. I decided to focus on asking my local supermarket to include a taring station for its bulk foods section, so that I can bring my own containers and save the plastic bags that would have been used. We'll see what they say!

Knowing that if we keep doing so, we could jeopardize the future of our species and many others.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

I think people in the US associate meat with prosperity. It is at the same time a luxury and a right. I feel that one show on factory farming would open hearts and minds.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

I have old light bulbs for a while and did not know what to do with them and found out that I can bring them to specific stores like this one: https://www.batteriesplus.com/t/recycling/Light-Bulb

It helps me focus on the positive facts of my day and decrease the negative ones!
Everything is a question of perspective and writing about what I am thankful for helps me see things brighter !

I just checked the weather and it looks like the excellent weather in Portland is going to hold through Wednesday which is the last day of this EcoChallenge.  After that I see some rain in the forecast.  And if I want to try to continue these good habits, I am going to have to get a new raincoat because mine delaminated and now it leaks.  :(

OK, I kinda slipped up yesterday and forgot to bring my reusable produce bags with me to the grocery store so I had to use one of the plastic ones (I wouldn't have used one at all but I was getting beans). But, I have noticed myself doing a lot better at noticing which of my purchases tend to come in plastic and what kinds of plastic they are using. I intend to keep being mindful of this!
