I know a Madrone is a type of evergreen tree, but after exploring the Madrone Wall as a new rock climbing spot I've decided it means "awkward stance."  The trees are pretty though!

Cutting out the straws wasn't always easy during this challenge, but it made me much more aware of this wasteful afterthought.  I look forward to continuing to intentionally avoid straws in the future!

This year I found it harder to accomplish my challenges on the exact days during the week.  With the decluttering, my closets are looking sooo organized and Goodwill is not stocked with all sorts of items!  but deleting outlook off my personal phone is a habit I will continue after this eco-challenge.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

I think leading by example is always a great way to help those around you think about their own habits and realize they to can make changes easily.  I'm not a huge meat eater in general (I don't crave it like some people), but I find that I eat it because it's just always around (BBQs, etc.)  This goal allows me to stop and think before I eat and realize that often I don't really even want the animal products that are readily available. Shifting my habit to meat once per day (or not at all) has easily rubbed off on my partner (who can't live without meat), and has created opportunity for conversation with my parents.  People might not always follow suit, but at least you had the opportunity to explain why eating less meat or no meat is important.  Maybe they'll skip bacon next time they're ordering, you never know!
