Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 5 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Amanda Coffman 10/28/2018 2:07 PMI vent my frustrations orally to my friends and family and I go to Tae Kwon Do four times a week to punch and kick a a heavy weight bag. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Amanda Coffman 10/21/2018 8:45 AMSaturday I boxed up all of glass bottles and took them into Target, because our local recycling facility does not collect glass. This is understandable if you ever visit the center and view the process of hand sorting the recyclable material. The presence of glass is too hazardous to the workers sorting the materials. This does not bother me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Amanda Coffman 10/17/2018 11:41 AMLast year I became much better at using cloth napkins and I have fallen out of the habit. -
Amanda Coffman 10/15/2018 7:25 AMAnother special event! Twelve of us went to dinner for my husband's birthday and I ate a second meal without a computer. -
Amanda Coffman 10/15/2018 7:24 AMWow! I actually had one day this happened, because I did not have time to eat lunch and for dinner we had a Department cookout. It takes a special event for me not to eat in front of my computer. That might be sad. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Amanda Coffman 10/15/2018 7:21 AMI typically buy a new one. This is why I frequently empty the bags and return them to my car immediately. I had another question. I live in a neighborhood and walk my dog and I use the "disposable" bags to pick up dog poo. At least once a month, I get my groceries in plastic bags. Does anyone have a better solution for dog poo?-
Natalie Morrow 10/22/2018 6:16 AMI know there are certain brands of dog bags that are bio-degradable. I'm not 100% sure how true that info is, but it's worth looking into.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Amanda Coffman 10/15/2018 7:17 AMI do not think I have been successful one time at this challenge. I am currently sitting here having a breakfast shake while I am writing this. I am so sorry.
