Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Meditate
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

I practice reflecting on 3 things I am grateful for each day. I like to do this when I have down time like on my bike ride home or as I go to bed at night.

@Love I could definitely see the journal being challenging, which is why I've so far just stuck to thinking through my gratitude practice. It can be done anywhere, anytime, and often helps to interrupt my constant thought cycle of what I need to do next. Once that cycle is interrupted, I find it's easier to focus on the present and my surroundings as well, which I think is really what bike rides should be about! Can see music being distracting too, but have you tried jazz... :)

Joey! I just noted in my reflection question how I am struggling with starting a gratitude journal. Do you write down your 3 things or just think them? Have you had success with a journal? I love the idea of bike time gratitude :) I usually listen to music but I'm considering kicking this habit because I think it winds me up more than calms me down...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

Every morning I have a bagel for breakfast - I put hummus on top most days now and only treat myself to cream cheese every once in a while :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

I can shut down other computers I use besides just my work computer! And other electronics like my coffee machine.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I've always wanted to sing up for GoBox, but never have (not sure why?)...  adding this to my goals this month!

Oh my, didn’t think it’d be this difficult to find 10 mins to do my very first meditation (ever in my life)... maybe today. 🤞🏽
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Track my Purchases
What have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?

The first time I tracked my purchases was throughout my first year out of college working for BPS (plus another job). I want to see if the percentages of my income I'm  saving and spending on different things have changed after almost a year without tracking. I do it simply on a very makeshift Google spreadsheet.

Our water fountain board is ready to fill with your actions! (Though it's best to stick to 2 or 3 actions so as to not overwhelm yourself!)

I tend to think of myself as being actively engaged, and then I am humbled to see all of the new opportunities to take part in. Time to dust off my activism and get more involved!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Five minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?

I think I take pretty quick showers but without timing it, I don’t actually know. Plus, if I set an alarm with annoying music, I’ll be very motivated to get out of the shower to turn it off!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

It’s the norm for meat to be the main course in the US. But whole grains and vegetables can be combined in to be very filling and flavorful - though it does take some knowledge or a good recipe to get the flavors and food combinations right. I really appreciate restaurants (like Portland’s Laughing Planet) that provide great examples of flavorful, filling vegetarian meals.
