BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I made my own water bank for my toilet tank today and installed it this morning. I look forward to seeing if it makes a difference in my water usage over time

This challenge inspired me to take a deeper dive into sustainability. I want to keep momentum going, so I tried a few apps that have a similar concept. The one I liked the most is JouleBug. So, I challenge you to keep your momentum going. Find something like JouleBug to keep you going in the EcoChallenge off-season.

This challenge has allowed me to be more mindful in the daily decisions that I make.

It's been rather exciting, trying to commit to and do some of the challenges. The great part is most of the actions can be adopted into our own daily actions rather easily.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Zero-Waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

Incorporate more potatoes with the skin (boiled, baked, sauteed) and spinach in my melas.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Install a Low-Flow Showerhead

Inform and educate more people about water scarcity, especially as it becomes more of an issue and more apparent in some cities.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Track my Purchases
What have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?

I make a list of things I need to buy so I can avoid impulse buying, saving me money and reducing my likelihood to purchase items I don't need.

I first checked in on October 22, which was 2 days before the challenge ended. I haven't done anything. I'm sorry!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?

One way to save money while shopping for me is to assess my priority list; my necessities vs indulgence. I shop for necessities first and usually by the time I'm done, realize I don't even want some of the indulgence items!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Support a Sharing Economy
What are some of the barriers to sharing economies? What is your plan for supporting or creating one in your community?

One of the common barriers to this is possible lack of information on what can be repurposed and where. We had a Swap Soiree to showcase this and the advantages of sharing, one of which is reducing waste to the landfill. We have another coming up soon!
