The Green Society at UTSA

University of Texas at San Antonio

The Green Society (GS) is a coalition of passionate students working together to promote environmental stewardship at the University of Texas at San Antonio and in the wider San Antonio community. Our goals are to decrease UTSA’s carbon footprint, engage students in community involvement through volunteering, galvanize public support for sound environmental policy, and build a community of environmentally minded students and citizens. Our overall goal is to make GS a recognized and respected voice for promoting sustainability at UTSA and throughout San Antonio.

The 5min showers have become very easy to master since I never have time anyways ;P

I try to eat healthy and plenty, whenever I feel I'm getting sick I try to slow down and drink tea or orange juice and it usually helps, I avoid situations that could harm me, I am very into skin care so I do routines to exfoliate, etc. I try to exercise, whether it is going to the gym, or just walking places if I can. I try to be close to...

Many people think that just eating veggies doesn’t have it’s consequences. But truthfully, the mass production of crops sometimes leaves acres of land completed stripped of their nutrients. Now, the CO2 and methane emissions from the American meat production has definitely left a mark on the Earth as well, but I wish growing vegetables (local...

San Antonio suffers from drought and then when the rains come... it pours for days causing major flooding. The communities in the heart of downtown probably have it the worst. The city's infrastructure was built in the hill country with tons of impermeable concrete and gutters overwhelmed with water.

Didn't use any staws today... But I did use a plastic forks :( I forgot my lunch this morning so had to buy a lunch at the university center.

I came across this question a couple weeks back and I wish I hadn't (ignorance is bliss? lol) Not having coffee period would be the most sustainable choice, but for now we can start small and ask for it with non-dairy milk and in your own container. The Earth will appreciate it a latte. (honestly I'm just here to make myself feel better and...

It wasn't until the end of last year that trash became an overwhelming thought in my head. I asked my family to keep their cardboard, paper, and plastic for a couple of weeks until I came home. We then drove for 10 minutes and were able to recycle 60lbs of different materials. (and we got a couple dollars out of it!) This is the picture of...

It's easy to do the Power Down challenge now that everything in my room is on a power strip. But I did forget to turn it off on weekends.

The challenge has made me realize many things I wasn't aware of before, and it encourages me to do stuff I could've done before to reduce waste, save water, eat healthier, etc. It is pretty simple, I feel people just have to get a little help from a challenge like this to start doing what could do a big difference

Buy from local farmers, make my own bread to reduce plastic waste, buy bulk foods (pasta, beans, rice, spices, condiments...)
