    Energy Online Energy Audit
What most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?

Our energy footprint was not a surprise at all. What most interested me was going through the audit itself, especially as a new, first-time homeowner. Up until buying a house, I never paid any attention to what type of heating ducts we had, or whether our clothes dryer was electric. Simply doing the online audit (just 5 minutes!) made me get to know my home better and also start to understand where we might be losing our energy. Hopefully they are projects we can tackle in the near future!

    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media is a great way to keep us connected with loved ones, makes us laugh, and helps us to learn new things. It can also take more time than we realize or intend to give. After doing this action for a few days now, how do you feel? What do you notice?

It is way to easy for me to zone out on insta for 30+ minutes when I get home and need a brain break. I've been reading a lot more (one of my favorite hobbies) and getting a lot more satisfaction from being reminded of this challenge.

    Nature Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

We live in such a beautiful place! It's easy to take it for granted and I've been grateful for the reminded encouragement to get out and explore.

    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

After 14 years as a vegetarian I started eating meat again for health reasons. It was a tough moral decision for me and the way that it felt right to me was by ensuring that a majority of the meat I eat (that's about 80/20 as it's harder when I eat out) is from ethical, sustainable, humane sources. The advantage of knowing where my food comes from is being able to confirm that it aligns with my values. We've recently switched from mostly buying from local farmers market to a service called Butcher Box - this challenge inspired me to research more about their practices rather than simply taking them at face value. I also visited a farm on sauvie island as part of our pumpkin patch visit and will definitely be going back there for produce more regularly.

    Transportation Improve a Bus Stop
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

There are 3 bus stops right next to my house and I was able to improve one of them. I've got two more to go... If the bus stops are clean, welcoming, and have more info about the service on display, perhaps more people will be encouraged to take public transit!

    Transportation Work from Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?

Yes, thankfully my company offers telework options. I work with such remarkable people and often I find I want to come into the office just to be and interact with them in person. I think that would be my biggest WFH struggle - feeling disconnected by the lack of in-person interaction with my wonderful coworkers.

I haven't been able to participate as much in the EcoChallenge as I had originally wanted. First, my travel and subsequent wrist injury has been such a drag. Second, and unsuspectingly, most of the daily challenges are things I already do! Next year I might make them active challenges anyway, so I can feel good each day I live out the habit. :) Regardless, it's been *awesome* to see the team really step it up, engage, and win so many gift cards! Go ThinkShout - we're down to the last day!

    Energy Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?

That was so easy! Why hadn't we done that before - thanks for the nudge, EcoChallenge
