Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I think environmental factors majorly affect human health, it's our atmosphere and we live in it, therefore it affects us all.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Try Carpooling
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety.

Time and convenience are the biggest factors for choosing transportation. I really have to plan ahead to take the bus because it could add up to 30 minutes to the trip waiting at the bus stops. I do think it's safe, I just wish they came on exact, reliable times.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

Today I went to a group weight lifting class with my friend. We plan to try going to the gym together when we can so that it is more enjoyable.

    Nature Do Nature Activities
What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and touch?

While outside, I not only enjoyed nature, but spent many hours helping to conserve it. I've collected native grass seeds, removed invasive species, and cleared trails for others to also enjoy nature. I felt the wind blowing through the prairies, and the softness of the grasses. I heard the crunch of leaves and sticks beneath my feet. I felt a sense of calm while outside, as if it is where I belong.

I currently volunteer at the local nature center, Fontenelle Forest. There I have assisted in restoring the ecosystem. I could become more involved, and plan to do so, in organizations that promote and practice sustainability. One of those organizations is Green Bellevue.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

I need to be sleeping for at least 8 hours in order to feel good and functional for the day. This helps me feel better about the entire day in general which positively contributes to multiple aspects of my health. I set reminders on my phone to wrap up what I'm doing by a certain time and it reminds me to wind down. Also melatonin helps.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Avoid refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

Even though I know how terrible they are to your health, I have always had a slight problem with avoiding refined sugars. Since starting this challenge, I have made a conscious effort to limit my intake of refined sugars as well as adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet and I have noticed a huge improvement in the way I feel and even my clarity of mind. 10/10 will continue these healthy eating habits when October has passed.

On this last day of the EcoChallenge, I can't be more proud of our team as they commit to making small changes in their daily lives that will have a last effect on themselves and their community. #GoMAVS
